Overdose Response Basics

Warning Signs

  • Unresponsiveness or inability to wake the person
  • Slow, shallow, or absent breathing
  • Blue or gray lips/fingertips, or very pale skin
  • Seizure activity, chest pain, or severe overheating

Immediate Steps

  • Call emergency services without delay
  • Administer naloxone for suspected opioid overdose
  • Start rescue breathing/CPR if trained and needed
  • Place in recovery position and stay with the person
